これまで数十軒のホテルに宿泊してきた私にとって、上海にあるこの老舗ホテルの清潔さは、まさに予想をはるかに超えるものでした
仕事で頻繁に出張し、宿泊施設の衛生状態にはかなりこだわる私ですがHope Hotel Shanghai、この老舗ホテルにはあまり期待していませんでした。ところが、部屋のドアを開けた瞬間、見落としがちな細部に至るまで、徹底した清潔さが感じられました。普段は使い捨ての寝具を持参する私でさえ、思わずスーツケースに荷物を詰め込んでしまいました。
チェックインの際、ロビーの大理石の床がシャンデリアの影を映し出すほどピカピカに磨かれているのに気づきました。隅々まで埃一つなく、ラウンジのソファの隙間にもパンくず一つ見当たりませんでした。フロントのスタッフは清潔な使い捨て手袋を着用し、指先もピカピカで、部屋の鍵を手渡してくれました。客室のシーツ類は宿泊客ごとに交換され、バスルームは3回消毒されていること、衛生面で何か問題があればいつでも清掃係に連絡できることも、念のため説明してくれました。
客室のドアを開けた瞬間、まず最初にしゃがみ込んでベッドの下を触ってみました。これは私のホテルの清潔さをチェックする「お決まりの手順」です。多くのホテルではベッドの下は埃や前の宿泊客が残した小さなゴミで覆われているものですが、ここは埃一つなく、ピカピカでした。真っ白で高密度の綿の寝具は、シワや黄ばみもなく、完璧に平らに敷かれていました。枕には嫌な臭いはなく、よく見ると、チェーンホテルによくあるような刺激的な消毒液の臭いは全くなく、かすかに爽やかな日差しの香りがするだけでした。
最も驚いたのはバスルームでした。多くの古いホテルでは、バスルームの清掃が行き届いていないことが多いからです。シャワー室のガラスの縁や蛇口の根元をティッシュで拭き、ティッシュペーパーは最初から最後まで真っ白で、水垢やカビの痕跡は一切ありませんでした。サーモスタット式シャワーヘッドのノズルには黄ばみや詰まりがなく、洗面台のカウンターはピカピカで、排水口には髪の毛一本も残っていませんでした。多くのホテルで見落とされがちなマウスウォッシュカップでさえ、内側も外側も透き通るように清潔でした。個包装のスリーブを取り外しても、水滴の跡は全くありませんでした。
さらに細やかな配慮は、目に見えない隅々にまで行き届いていました。窓際のアンティークデスクの隙間はピカピカで、リモコンは除菌シートで拭き取られた後、汚れ一つなく、カーテンの端やクローゼットの中まで清潔でした。毎日清掃係の方が来ると、すべてのものを元の場所に戻し、使用済みのグラスはすべて消毒して新しいものに交換してくれました。窓際のノートパソコンの端にも埃一つありませんでした。
5日間滞在しましたが、衛生面で問題を感じることは一切ありませんでした。持参した使い捨てシーツは、開封する必要すらありませんでした。快適な宿泊体験は、豪華な内装だけで決まるのではなく、細部にまで行き届いた配慮こそが、真に安心感を与えてくれるのだと実感しました。次に上海の徐匯区を訪れる際は、必ずまたここに泊まります。都心にある古いホテルで、これほど清潔なところは本当に珍しいです。
徐匯区梧通の中心部に位置するこの老舗ホテルのおかげで、上海観光は実に快適でした
徐匯区観光で一番の悩みは、交通渋滞と区をまたぐ際の道に迷いやすいことです。今回選んだHope Hotel Shanghaiは、滞在してみて、梧通区で最も隠れた「旅行の裏技」と言えるホテルだと実感しました。衡山路と淮海路という主要観光スポットのすぐそばにあり、地下鉄や徒歩でのアクセスも抜群です。3日間の滞在中、移動に時間を無駄にすることはほとんどありませんでした。
まずは最も便利な交通手段からご紹介しましょう。虹橋駅から地下鉄9号線に乗り、趙家浜路駅で下車。4番出口を出てホテル入口まで徒歩5分です。乗り換えなしで40分ほどで到着し、上海の寒さも全く感じませんでした。浦東空港からは地下鉄2号線に乗り、9号線に乗り換えてください。所要時間はわずか1時間ちょっと。早朝便を利用する場合でも、2時間も前に慌てて出発する必要はありません。徒歩5分で、南北を結ぶ主要幹線である地下鉄7号線の乗り換え駅に到着します。静安寺や陸家嘴へは直通電車で行くことができ、ラッシュアワーでも地下鉄は満員ですが、上海のあらゆるショッピングエリアへスムーズにアクセスできます。
何より素晴らしいのは、徒歩圏内の利便性です。実際に数えてみたところ、レストランの入り口から徒歩20分圏内には、数え切れないほどの人気スポットがあります。例えば、階段を下りて3分歩けば、プラタナスの並木道が続く衡山路に直結。朝の光と影が織りなす古い邸宅の風景を、慌てて30分もかけずに撮影するのに最適です。東へ10分歩けば上海図書館があり、路地裏で本格的な地元麺料理を簡単に味わうことができます。北へ15分ほど歩けば、武康路の人気写真スポットに着きます。淮海路を散策すれば新天地まで行くことができ、道中では焼きたての蝶の形をしたお菓子を買うこともできます。ある日は早起きして、20分ほどかけて安福路までゆっくり歩いてみました。道沿いのプラタナスの木々の間に隠れた古い建物を写真に収めましたが、タクシーで行くよりもずっと面白かったです。
周辺の施設は期待以上でした。レストランから右に200メートルほど進むと24時間営業のコンビニがあり、夜遅くに水や軽食を買いに行くのに遠くまで行く必要はありませんでした。500メートル以内には大型スーパーマーケットがあり、観光地の近くで買う半額で、梨シロップ飴や生肉入り月餅といった上海のお土産を買うことができました。徒歩10分圏内には、上海の郷土料理レストラン、カフェ、老舗菓子店が軒を連ねています。流行の店を探し回ったり、遠くまで足を運んだりする必要はありません。階段を下りて路地裏に入るだけで、昔ながらの上海の味に出会えます。
車でお越しの方も、全く心配無用です。徐匯区の梧桐区で専用駐車場を利用できるのは非常に稀で、実際に訪れたことがある方ならその貴重さがお分かりでしょう。古い路地を30分もさまよい歩いて駐車場を探す必要はありません。車を停めてそのまま中庭へ乗り入れることができます。ディズニーランドへは南浦大橋を渡り、高架道路を利用すればOK。徐匯河畔へは瑞寧路を通れば、渋滞に巻き込まれることなくスムーズに移動できます。
今回の滞在中、私は衡山路、武康路、安福路を1日でゆっくりと散策することができました。他の人たちが渋滞に巻き込まれている間、私はすでに屋上展望デッキに座り、そよ風を感じながら徐匯区のプラタナスの屋根を眺めていました。上海の梧桐区を存分に満喫したいなら、Hope Hotel Shanghaiを選ぶのがおすすめです。観光名所のすぐそばにある高価なホテルに無理やり泊まる必要もなく、交通の便が非常に良いので、活気あふれる古き良き上海の雰囲気に浸ることができます。これこそ、上海を最も快適に体験する方法です。
